chess PiecesThe Kennard-Dale Chess Club has been off to an active and promising start this year.

Other than its regular Thursday after-school meetings, the Chess Club has also been holding monthly meetings at the Mason-Dixon Public Library.  These events began regularly in the middle of the 2017-18 school year, and are continuing to be held in the library’s community room on Saturdays from 12 to 2 pm.

The intention behind these meetings is to engage members of the community and introduce the game of chess to newcomers. During the meeting, all people of all ages and levels of experience are welcome, from master-level chess players to those who don’t know the difference between a rook and a knight. There is typically a brief period of instruction from the club advisor, Mr. Smith, followed by a free period in which players are able to play chess with whomever they wish.

Boards, pieces, and an enthusiastic opponent are always provided.

The most recent event occurred on September 8th, and the upcoming events will be held on October 13th and November 10th. Any questions can be directed toward Mr. Smith or Samantha Miles. Please come join us for the entertaining experience only chess can provide!
