About SHS

Spanish National Honor Society

Each year students at Kennard-Dale High School enrolled in Spanish III, IV, or V, have the opportunity to become members of their school’s Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica. Congratulations to Edu Alvarez, Michelle Bowman, Allison Brown, James Harris, Brittany Isaac, Trisha Knight, Jill Peterson, Jere Preston, and Leah Shenk for their selection into SNHS. These Spanish students have been selected to become members of the Spanish National Honor Society at Kennard-Dale High School because they achieved academically, displayed a positive attitude, participated in foreign language activities, get involved in foreign language week, and met other criteria to obtain membership in this organization.

Students involved with the Spanish Society have the opportunity to get involved in the elementary foreign language enrichment program, become peer tutors, participate in fundraisers, and get involved in service projects. Members are also encouraged to submit written work and/or drawings for publication in ¡Albricias! (a National Spanish magazine.)

This year the Society members had two service projects. They raised money for the St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Also, they collected unbreakable Christmas decorations and donated them to the New Life Children’s Home in Guatemala. Other activities included a field trip to see a Spanish dance presentation, attending a drama presentation by York Little Theater’s group Fronteras, eating at a Spanish restaurant, selling baked goods, and tutoring in Spanish.

At an assembly in the spring, Mrs. Snyder, the society’s advisor, will present each new member with a membership certificate, patch, and flower. ¡Felicidades a los nuevos miembros!
